Section 13 is a roguelite twin-stick shooter set within the shadowy confines of a secretive paranormal containment facility. Players assume the roles of Agents Red, Boy Scout, Beaker, and Scalpel, members of the enigmatic S2P Corporation tasked with investigating a catastrophic containment breach at Section 13. The story blends corporate intrigue with supernatural mysteries, challenging players to uncover hidden conspiracies while confronting strange entities that have overrun the facility. With a dark and tense atmosphere, the game invites players to explore a dangerous and unpredictable environment where quick reflexes and strategic thinking are essential. Gameplay in Section 13 can be experienced solo or cooperatively with up to three players, though crossplay is not supported. The combat emphasizes fast-paced twin-stick shooting combined with careful resource management, including timed dodge-rolls, reloads, and the use of melee weapons or special abilities to survive. Players must also monitor their Fear level, as rising panic can disrupt performance mid-mission. Progression is driven by unlocking a variety of customizable weapons, tactical items, and synaptic enhancements that alter gameplay mechanics, alongside optional genetic modifications that add unique side effects. Between runs, players earn persistent upgrades that reshape their approach and improve their chances of success as they delve deeper into the facility’s shifting, hazardous levels. With its blend of cooperative action, strategic customization, and a richly unsettling setting, Section 13 offers a challenging and atmospheric experience for fans of intense, supernatural-themed shooters.
