Plus Ultra: Legado is a 2D Metroidvania set against the backdrop of 16th-century Mexico, a pivotal moment when Europe and the Americas first collided. The game weaves a rich narrative grounded in this historical context, inviting players to explore the complexities of this encounter through a unique “comicvania” style—a blend of classic Metroidvania mechanics with a comic book-inspired presentation. Players navigate intricate labyrinthine maps, uncover new abilities that unlock previously inaccessible areas, and face challenging boss battles, all while experiencing an engaging story that brings history to life in an accessible and dynamic way. Gameplay in Plus Ultra: Legado emphasizes fluid and fast-paced traversal, addressing the often-slow backtracking typical of the genre with a responsive move-set that encourages exploration and experimentation. The game’s storytelling seamlessly integrates with the action—dialogues unfold in real time, allowing players to move, jump, or even break through speech bubbles to progress or return to exploration at their own pace. This interactive narrative approach ensures that the story never interrupts the flow of gameplay, giving players control over when and how they engage with the unfolding historical drama. Overall, Plus Ultra: Legado offers a fresh take on Metroidvania conventions, combining historical depth, vibrant art, and smooth gameplay into an exciting adventure.
