Crusader Kings II: Horse Lords is the ninth expansion for the acclaimed grand strategy RPG Crusader Kings II, bringing fresh depth to the game through its focus on the nomadic cultures of the Eurasian steppes. This expansion introduces a distinctive nomadic government system that contrasts sharply with traditional feudal gameplay. Instead of managing individual holdings, players oversee populations and navigate the complex power dynamics between influential clans within their realm. Raising armies depends on your population size, and maintaining the delicate balance of clan interests is crucial to securing your rule. The expansion also adds rich new content to the map, including the Tarim Basin and large parts of Mongolia, along with over a hundred new events that vividly bring the steppes and Central Asia to life. Beyond governing your nomadic empire, Horse Lords offers strategic opportunities to control the ancient Silk Road trade routes, enabling you to finance your campaigns through commerce. However, these lucrative paths are hotly contested, requiring vigilance against rival powers and raiders eager to disrupt your trade. The expansion also introduces tributary states as a new diplomatic option, allowing you to extend your influence through alliances and vassalage. Non-nomadic rulers gain tools to counter nomadic threats, such as building forts in hostile territories, while nomads can send mercenary forces or deal with landless raiders who may seek to carve out their own domains. Whether you aim to unite Eurasia under a Pax Mongolica or become a fearsome conqueror reshaping the steppe, Horse Lords offers a dynamic and immersive experience that challenges you to master the art of nomadic rule.
