The Rewinder is a 2D puzzle adventure game steeped in traditional Chinese folklore, presented through beautiful pixel art that evokes the style of classic Chinese ink paintings. Players step into the shoes of Yun, a mysterious "rewinder" with the unique ability to enter people's memories and subtly influence their thoughts and actions. This power allows Yun to alter the course of history by manipulating "senses" and swaying others' "intentions," adding a thoughtful layer of strategy to the game’s puzzle-solving mechanics. Set in a small, once-thriving village now abandoned and haunted by resentful spirits, the story begins when Yun is summoned by the Spirit Wardens—mythical guardians of the afterlife—to uncover the mystery behind a spirit unable to reincarnate. As Yun investigates, he encounters notable figures from Chinese mythology, including the Ox-head and Horse-face Guardians of the Beyond and the land’s protector, Tudi Gong. Throughout the journey, players unravel the village’s dark past, piecing together what happened seven years ago and discovering the truth behind the lone woman still waiting in the teahouse. The Rewinder combines atmospheric storytelling with intricate puzzles, inviting players to explore a rich world where memory, intention, and history intertwine.
