IMDb (7.5/10) | Rotten Tomatoes Genres Animation, Action, Drama Director Mamoru Oshii Writers Kazunori Itô, Yutaka Izubuchi, Mamoru Oshii Actors Mîna Tominaga, Briony Glassco, Julie Ann Taylor Plot Summary When a terrorist attack is blamed on the Air Force, Special Vehicle Unit 2 gets caught in the middle of a growing political conflict. Note from Encoder Patlabor 2: The Movie (1993) — original title 機動警察パトレイバー2 the Movie (Kidō Keisatsu Patoreibā 2 the Movie). This is Mamoru Oshii in full control mode: cooler, denser, and far more politically charged than the first film. It’s less about Labor-on-Labor spectacle and more about atmosphere, ambiguity, and the uneasy idea of peace itself. Audio options sourced from Hydes version and the extras from the JPBD. A small but fascinating bit of trivia: Patlabor 2 is often cited as Oshii’s most overtly political work, and its depiction of a manufactured crisis and media manipulation feels uncannily prescient—even more so today than in 1993. It’s one of those sequels that quietly outgrows its own franchise. Media Information Code:
